Hard to know which is more surprising--that Rachel's first day of kindergarten is already upon us, or that I'm actually blogging about it!
As for the day itself, Rachel had a great one. Daddy stayed home from work and we had breakfast together. We dropped Rachel off at the kindergarten playground, and when the bell rang she was the first one lined up to go into her class. I shed no tears (c'mon--it's only 3 hours a day and my head is swimming with all the things I can do!), but I'm sure I would have if Rachel did. However, she clearly couldn't get away from us fast enough. As for her teacher, I think she'll be OK. Given that she's outnumbered 30 to 1 (yes, THIRTY to ONE--isn't that illegal??) she's got her work cut out for her. I've already volunteered once in class, and I have a weekly time slot now. The teacher seems to keep order pretty well, and the kids are anxious to please (LOVE this age!). At any rate, Rachel is liking kindergarten, even if it appears she won't be learning anything she doesn't already know (at least classwork-wise). It's a bone of contention, but we're too far down the waiting list for charter schools and there's no way we're paying for a private school at the kindergarten level, so it is what it is. OK--see you in a year when I blog about her first day of first grade :>)

"even if it appears she won't be learning anything she doesn't already know" wow...you just get right to the point don't you!? I thought the whole "Rachel knows more" was just a slip of the tongue...but apparently not! ;) Glad she had a great first day of school...even if she will be bored. :)
lol. you guys are funny. school is just as more for socializing as it is for learning. she'll build her social skills if nothing else. and no, that's not to say she doesn't have any. I'm just saying I've been told that homeschool is just fine, except for that you don't get the same socialization. She looks happy, and you get 3 hrs. a day. So, what's to lose, right?! :) She looks super cute!!
Not that I'm suggesting this, but I just met a 3rd grader Saturday (one of my Godchild Maggie's classmates) who, in Kindergarten was reading the syllabus (yes, there was a syllabus and yes, she read it to her parents) and said to her parents . . . "Really? Learn that letters put together make words????". After a couple of weeks of helping the other kids with their work, she was moved up a grade. Perhaps this is an option? Go RachEl!
Just for clarification for Carl's family...
DISCLAIMER: My "Aunt Marcy" login is because originally I set up an account to follow my niece's blog. I am by no means suggesting that I am Rachel's Aunt. If Karen and Carl prefer Rachel call unrelated adults "Miss" something or "Aunt" something rather by their first name I am comfortable with that address.
END OF DISCLAIMER:
(and yes, I'm always this funny..right KJ?)
What great first day of school photos!! Love her giant backpack :) I know Rachey-Rach will have a great time at K even if she does know everything ;)
Glad I was able to participate in her first official day - although the situation keeps me comfortable with having to tell the teacher at the open house that we already planned to have Rachel out of school for several weeks during the school year! Go Rachel! (And tell Mommy you want slightly smaller backpack!)
KJ - TWO blogs all year? TWO???? With all that time on your hands whilst your baby was at school, and more recently while you sat staring at your PICC line surely you could have blogged. I blog. Sure, it's a secret, invisible blog, but rest assured, I blog. Now, can you resolve to blog more in 2012? It'd be almost impossible to blog less! Love, Marcy
